Deck Inspection Week 2011

Do you know your deck? To learn more aDo ybout your deck and the safety issues which may exist.

Hello Homeowners –
Summer is right around the corner! As you prepare to get outside and entertain this summer, think about the areas in your backyard that may create a safety hazard. One of those areas is a deck. If you have a deck, it’s important to make sure it doesn’t pose a safety risk to friends and family.

Since 2003, there have been thousands of reported injuries and at least 20 deaths in the United States as a result of deck failures. Improper construction, lack of maintenance and old age can make your deck a safety hazard. Deck collapses, however, are preventable. A yearly check-up will help identify problems with your deck and keep you and your family safe this summer.

On June 21, the American Society of Home Inspectors and Simpson Strong-Tie will kick off Deck Inspection Week 2011 offering homeowners free deck inspections in three metro areas: Atlanta, Chicago and Seattle. This is a perfect opportunity to have a professional take a good look at your deck and identify any problem areas. But sign up quick! There are a limited number of inspections available in each city. Sign-ups start May 20th and go through June 14th.

At ASHI, we feel it is important to give back to our community. I am proud to say that Rainier Inspections, Inc. will be participating in Deck Inspection Week as a volunteer inspector.
